Answer:

a = 11

b = 33

Explanation:

Given :

Total fossil found = 33

Let :

Number of plant fossil = b

Number of animal fossil = a

a + b = 33

Plant fossil = 2 times number of animal fossil

b = 2a

Put b = 2a

a + 2a = 33

3a = 33

Divide both sides by 3

3a/ 3 = 33/3

a = 11

a + b = 33

11 + b = 33

b = 33 - 11

b = 22
