Explanation:

In order to find y we have to find the value of x

angle "x" is an angle formed by a tangent line and a secant line.

Kindly look at the image.

As you can see an angle formed by a tangent and a secant is equal to half of its intercepted arc.

x's intercepted arc has a measure of 168

So...

X =
(168)/(2)


(168)/(2) =84

So x = 84

Now to find y.

Angle "x" and angle "y" are formed on a straight line.

Angles formed on a straight line add up to equal 180°

That being said we can find a missing angle ( y ) by subtracting the given angle's measure ( angle x which has a measure of 84°) from 180

so y = 180 - 84

180 - 84 = 96

Hence y = 96
