Answer:

24 feets

Explanation:

let the shorter cable be x feets

so the longer cable will be 9 plus the shorter cable which is (9 + x) feets

  • Total length = Longer cable + shorter cable
  • 39 = (9 + x) + x

  • 39 = 9 + 2x
  • 2x = 39 - 9
  • 2x = 30

x \: = \: (30)/(2) \\ x = 15feets

  • But the longer cable is (9 + x)
  • So longer cable = 9 + 15

  1. Longer cabl = 24 feets

Answer:

the length of the longer piece of cable is 24 ft

Explanation:

shor piece = s

Long piesce = s+9

s + s+9= 39

2s = 30

s = 15

short = 15

15 +9 = 24

long = 24

15+24 = 39
