\bold{\huge{\underline{ Solution 1 }}}

Given :-

  • A boy wishes to divide a board of 20 cm long into 3 pieces
  • He divided the board in the ratio of 1 : 2 :4

To Find :-

  • We have to find the length of each divided piece of board

Let's Begin :-

Let the given ratios be 1x, 2x and 4x

  • The total length of the board is 28 cm
  • He divided it in ratio 1 : 2 : 4

Therefore,

According to the question,

\sf{ x + 2x + 4x = 28}

\sf{ 7x = 28}

\sf{ x = }{\sf{(28)/(7)}}

\sf{ x = }{\sf{\cancel{(28)/(7)}}}

\bold{ x = 4}

Thus, The value of x is 4

Now,

Length of first piece = 4 cm

Length of second piece

\sf{ = 2}{\sf{*{4}}}

\bold{ = 8\: cm }

Length of third piece

\sf{ = 4}{\sf{*{4}}}

\bold{ = 16 \:cm }

Hence, The length of each piece of board is 4 cm , 8cm and 16cm .

\bold{\huge{\underline{ Solution 2 }}}

Given :-

  • A wholesaler bought 840 m of curtain material
  • He decided to divide into 3 bundles in the ratio 2 : 5 : 7

To Find :-

  • We have to find the length of each of the bundle of curtains

Let's Begin :-

Let the given ratios be 2x, 5x and 7x

  • The total length of curtains is 840 m

According to the question,

\sf{ 2x + 5x + 7x = 840}

\sf{ 14x = 840}

\sf{ x = }{\sf{(840)/(14)}}

\sf{ x = }{\sf{\cancel{(840)/(14)}}}

\bold{ x = 60}

Thus, The value of x is 60

Now,

Length of the first bundle of curtains

\sf{ = 2}{\sf{*{60}}}

\bold{ = 120\: m }

Length of the second bundle of curtains

\sf{ = 5}{\sf{*{60}}}

\bold{ = 300\ : m }

Length of the third bundle of curtains

\sf{ = 7 }{\sf{*{60}}}

\bold{ = 420\: m }

Hence, The length of each bundle of curtains is 120m, 300 m and 420 m
