Explanation:

1. The total area is 12*10 m, or 120 m. The area of the non-shaded region is 7*2 m, or 14. Subtract 14 from 120 to get 116.

BTW the side 12 looks like it is less than the 10, the question is not lengthed properly, just saying

2. A bit trickier, divide the question into 2 parts, a triangle and rectangle.

The rectangle is 12*4 cm, or 48 cm, the triangle is 12 - 3 - 3 = 6 and 8 - 4 = 4

So we use 6 and 4. The area of a triangle is 1/2b * h, half of the base times the height, the base is 6 cm, and the height is 4 cm, 1/2(6) * 4 = 3*4 = 12 cm

48 + 12 = 60 cm
