Explanation:

I will call the angle A.

we need to use cos, sine, and tangent here

cosine= adjacent over hypotenuse

sine = opposite over hypotenuse

tangent = opposite over adjacent

the angle A has x as the hypotenuse

and y is adjacent to the angle

cosine will be used

cos(A)= adjacent/hypotenuse

cos(A)= 5/x

get x alone by using opposite signs

x and 5 are dividing. the opposite of division is multiplication , but in order to cancel 5 from the right side i need to multiply the reciprocal. 5 is on top, needs to be on bottom to cancel out

cos(A)*(1/5)= 5*(1/5x)

cos(A)/5=(1/x)

flip both sides to get x on top

(5/cos(A))=x

use calculator

and make sue it is in degrees

x=5.8 cm
