Two planes just took off from Milwaukee, WI. The first plane is traveling 3

times as fast as the second plane. After traveling in the same direction for 3
hours, they are 606 miles apart. What is the average speed of each plane? (Hint: Since they are traveling in the same direction, the distance between them will be the difference of their distances.)

Answer:

D = rt
b, slower plane
8.5(3b) - 8.5(b) = 1649
25.5b - 8.5b = 1649
17b = 1649
b = 97mph
3b = 291mph
