Electricity comes from power generation plants (some homes have solar cells which produce most of the electricity

Older plants use coal and gas as fuels for power generation (if you see a train go thru with 100 or so cars loaded with coal, that may be from Wyoming and going to a coal fired plant)

Wind farms are becoming more plentiful and produce some portion of the electricity generated

Solar cell farms are also used to produce a small portion of electricity

Heat pumps can use geothermal sources (heat from the ground)

Wave motion of water can also be used to produce electricity
