Given:

Post office is located at P(1,5).

Market is located at Q(4,9).

To find:

Distance between the post office and the market.

Solution:

Distance between two points is:

D=√((x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2)

The post office is located at P(1,5) and the market is located at Q(4,9). So, the distance between the post office and the market is:

PQ=√((4-1)^2+(9-5)^2)

PQ=√((3)^2+(4)^2)

PQ=√(9+16)

PQ=√(25)

PQ=5

The axes show distance in miles.

Therefore, the distance between the post office and the market is 5 miles.
