Can the three numbers be the measures of the sides of a triangle? 8, 2, 8 *

Explanation:

yes, it would be an isoceles triangle (with 2 sides being equally long).

it would be a reissue high and narrow triangle, with the very short side (2) connecting the 2 sides of 8.

in general, 3 lines can only make a triangle, if the sum of lengths of any pair of these lines is always longer than the third line.

in our case :

8+2 > 8 true

8+8 > 2 true

so, yes, they can be a triangle.

example for 3 sides not making a triangle :

2, 3, 6

as

2+3 < 6
