Why are sea otters considered a keystone species? Why are they important?

because of the crucial ecological role they play in maintaining the health and stability of the nearshore marine ecosystem. It is important because without sea otters,sea urchins can overpopulate the sea floor and devour the kelp forest that provide cover and food for many other marine.
