A circus charges $2.50 for kid

tickets and $6 for adult tickets. Last weekend, twice as many kids attended the circus than adults. If the ticket sales totaled $7,150, how many kids attended the circus?

Please help and show how you did it.

Answer:

  • 1300 kids

Explanation:

Given

  • Kids = k, cost of a ticket = $2.5, total cost = 2.5k
  • Adults = a, cost of a ticket = $6, total cost = 6a
  • Total cost of tickets = $7150

Equations:

  • k = 2a
  • 2.5k + 6a = 7150

Substitute a into second equation, a = 1/2k and solve for k:

  • 2.5k + 6*(1/2k) = 7150
  • 2.5k + 3k = 7150
  • 5.5k = 7150
  • k = 7150/5.5
  • k = 1300
