Explanation:

Q+D=31

25Q +10D = 475 (miltiplied all by 100 to avoid decimals)

Multiply the first by -10(to eliminate D)

-10Q - 10D = - 310

25Q+10D = 475

ADD BOTH( D will cancel)

15Q = 165

Q= 11

31-11 =20 (dimes =20)

11x0.25 = 2.75

20x0.10=2

2.75+2 = $4.75
