To solve by Substitution you would make this equation equal to each other x+1=3x+5 from there you would solve for x subtract x on both sides. and subtracting 5 from both sides 2x= -4 then divide by 2 to get x by itself x=-2 since we now found what the value of x is you can now plug in x into one of the origunal equations and get your answer for y which is y=-1
