Explanation:

Since line EC is half of line AC, we know that EC + EC = AC, since two halves of something make it a whole.

So do the equation EC + EC = AC

2x + 11 + 2x + 11 = 8x - 14

Combine like terms.

4x + 22 = 8x - 14

Bring the -14 over to the other side of the equal (=) by adding -14 to 22 to get 8x alone.

4x + 36 = 8x

Bring the 4x over to the right side of the equal sign by subtracting 4x from 8x in order to get 36 alone and x value alone.

36 = 4x

Now divide both sides by 4x to get x entirely alone.

36/4 = 9

4x/4 = x

9 = x

Flip (if you want, I just prefer to).

x = 9
