Let the number of girls be x.

According to the question,

\implies \: (5)/(6) = (20)/(x)

\implies \: 5x = 20 * 6

\implies \: 5x = 120

\implies \: x = \cancel(120)/(5)

\implies \: x = 24

\cal \therefore \: Number \: of \: girls \: are \: 24.

Now,

Pupils in the class = Boys + Girls

\rightarrow20 + 24

\rightarrow44

Total number of pupils are 44 .

There would be 24 girls in the class.

5:6 is equal to the proportion 20:24. You know that the number of boys is 20, which is 4 times the ratio of boys, so you multiply 6 by 4 to get 24.
