A) One way the weakening of the British Empire led to the creation of new states after World War II was the fact that since they had lost so much during World War II, be that economically or militarily, that they couldn’t afford to intervene and attempt to keep influence in the colonies that they had created. As a result of British disinterest in foreign affairs, more and more of their colonies began to declare independence, and Britain couldn’t do a lot about it because it was so weakened by the effects of World War II.



B) One way Britain’s withdrawal from Palestine was different from the British withdrawal from India was the fact that despite the time they gained independence being around the same time, the duration of their respective independence movements was vastly different. First of all, India had been occupied by India for over a hundred years by that point, and had been fighting for independence for a very long time, and had been victims of British violence towards their activism for years. Palestine was occupied for about thirty years, which was small in comparison, and the independence movement didn’t last nearly as long as India’s. This difference in time period made the fight for independence very different. On India’s side, they faced a lot of resistance in their movement for independence, as India was an important source of resources for both their military and economy, and Britain would go to great lengths to keep that colony under control. Palestine was not entirely as important to the British Empire as India was, so when they were weakened and Palestine was under threat of becoming independent, the British could not afford to send out troops to Palestine, and could enact more force upon the Indian people as the country was much more valuable. So, in short, the main difference between British withdrawal from India and Palestine was the fact that in India, the withdrawal was a lot more violent than the withdrawal in Palestine.



C) One way the creation of the state of Israel led to conflict and displacement was the fact that the creation of the state led to a mass refugee crisis for both the Jewish and Arab populations living in Palestine at the time. There was a lot of displacement for both Israel and the newly formed Palestine, because the dividing line was very unclear at the time, and there was still a large percentage of the opposite ethnicity living in the opposite state that was originally intended, which created a refugee crisis.
