The product of the measures of the parts of one chord is equal to the product of the measures of the other chord, that is

x(x + 4) = (x + 1)(x + 2) ← expand parenthesis

x² + 4x = x² + 3x + 2 ( subtract x² + 3x from both sides )

x = 2

Then

JK = x + 4 + x = 2x + 4 = 2(2) + 4 = 4 + 4 = 8
