The sum of two numbers is 29. The sum of 3 times the larger and 6 times the smaller is 111. Find the numbers.​

The numbers are 21 and 8.

Explanation:

Let x be the larger number and y be the smaller number.

According to question,

x + y = 29

or x = 29 - y ........(i)

Also,

3x + 6y = 111

Replacing x from (i), we get,

3(29-y) + 6y = 111

87 - 3y + 6y = 111

3y = 111 - 87

3y = 24

y = 24/3

y = 8

And,

x = 29 - y

= 29 - 8

= 21
