5x+8y= -2--------------2

Multiply 1 by 5 and 2 by 2 and add

-2x+3y= 7 X 5

5x+8y= -2 X 2

-10x+15y= 35

10x+16y= -4

0x+31y= 31

31y= 31

y= 31/31

y= 1

put y= 1 in eqn 1

-2x+3y= 7

-2x+3(1)= 7

-2x+3=7

-2x= 7-3

-2x= 4

x=- 4/2

x= -2
