The box plot summarizes the number of goals scored at a basketball game. State the least

value, the median, the lower quartile, and the upper quartile. Then, find the interquartile range.

Answer:

Median: 25

Upper quartile: 30

Lower quartile: 20

IQR: 10

Explanation:

The nice thing here is they already put them in order :)

16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34

For the median, it's the middle number of the ordered data set. Unfortunately here, there is an even number of entries. In that case, we average the middle two numbers, 24 and 26. 24 + 26 = 50/2 = 25

For lower quartile/Q1, you take the middle number of the bottom half of the data set. Bottom half: 16, 18, 20, 22, 24...so the middle is 20

For the upper quartile/Q3, you take the middle number of the top half of the data set. Upper half: 26, 28, 30, 32, 34...so the middle is 30

For interquartile range/IQR, you calculate the range from third to first quartile: 30-20 = 10
