Explanation:

Given the 2 equations

y = x + 4 → (1)

y = - 2x - 2 → (2)

Substitute y = x + 4 into (2)

x + 4 = - 2x - 2 ( add 2x to both sides )

3x + 4 = - 2 ( subtract 4 from both sides )

3x = - 6 ( divide both sides by 3 )

x = - 2

Substitute x = - 2 into either of the 2 equations abd evaluate for y

Substituting into (1)

y = - 2 + 4 = 2

solution is (- 2, 2 )
