Answer:

The value of x is 2 and y is (-5)

Explanation:

Given;

  • -7x + y = – 19
  • -2x + 3y = – 19

To Find;

  • The value of x and y

By Using Elimination Method;

First name the equation

  • -7x + y = – 19 ...(1)
  • -2x + 3y = – 19 ...(2)

Now, Multiply equation (1) by 3 we get,

3 × (-7x + y = – 19)

-21x + 3y = – 57

Now, Eliminate

-21x + 3y = – 57

-2x + 3y = – 19

+ +

-19x = -38

x = -38/-19

x = 2

Now, Put the value of x in equation (2) we get the value of y.

-7x + y = – 19

-7(2) + y = – 19

-14 + y = -19

-14 + 14 + y = -19 + 14

y = -5

Thus, The value of x is (-5) and the value of y is 2.

For Verification;

-7x + y = – 19

-7(2) + (-5) = – 19

-14 – 5 = – 19

-19 = -19

-2x + 3y = – 19

-2(2) + 3(-5) = – 19

-4 – 15 = – 19

-19 = -19

Here, L.H.S = R.H.S

Hence Verified!
