Justin bought 5 apples and 4 oranges for £45. On another occasion, he bought 2 apples and 8 oranges which cost £50. Find the cost of 3 apples and 7 oranges

Answer:

the cost of 3 apples and 7 oranges be £15 and £35 respectively

Explanation:

Let us assume the apple be x

And, the oranges be y

Now according to the question

5x + 4y = £45

And,

2x + 8y = £50

Multiply by 2 in equation 1

So,

10x + 8y = £90

2x + 8y = £50

8x = £40

x = £5

And, y be

5(£5) + 4y = £45

£25 + 4y = £45

4y = 20

y = £5

So, the cost of 3 apples and 7 oranges be £15 and £35 respectively
