The patient was instructed to remove her clothing from the waist up and was not given a drape to cover herself. He explained that “modesty” does not apply in healthcare or medicine. The patient appeared to be nervous but under the impression that this was normal practice for an EKG.

Precordial electrodes were placed correctly and a tracing was initiated in an air conditioned room. Although the patient was anxious, she now was cold and started shivering. Somatic tremor artifacts were indicated and present on the EKG tracing. The artifacts were not resolved, corrected, or prevented. The MA dismissed the patient and forwarded the tracing for its interpretation to the provider.

So I'm assuming that since hes a male medical assistant, and the girl is 18, he is allowed to preform an EKG? I also know that if he has proper training he can preform an EKG. It seems kinda weird that no other staff attendees were in the exam room, and how she was instructed to remove her clothing and was obviously not comfortable. He should have asked the girl if she wanted someone else in the room with her, such as a female medical assistant or even just another female. I think he should have also given her something to drape over herself, once the pads were in place. Maybe since she didn't have a drape over her she became cold, and anxious.
