Once again here are the trigonometric ratios

Sin = Opposite over Hypotenuse

Cos = Adjacent over Hypotenuse

Tan = Opposite over Tangent

We are asked to find tan ∅

Looking at the trigonometric ratios we see that tan = opposite over adjacent

So we find the side length opposite of the indicated angle (∅) which would be 16 then we find the angle adjacent angle ( the side that is not the hypotenuse nor the opposite ) so the adjacent of angle ∅ is 12

so tan ∅ = opposite (16) over adjacent (12)

tan ∅ = 16/12
