Answer:

Sally bought 6 sodas and 2 cups of coffee.

Explanation:

Variable x = number of sodas

Variable y = number of coffees

$1.50x + $1.25y = $11.50

x + y = 8 drinks

$1.50(6) + $1.25(2) = $11.50

$9.00 + $2.50 = $11.50

I simply plugged in numbers that totalled to 8 drinks until I reached $11.50 as the total.

For example:

$1.50(5) + $1.25(3) = $11.50

$7.50 + $3.75 = $11.50

$11.25 = $11.50

This is not correct as they do not equal so this cannot be the answer.
