Roscoe is locked outside his house.The only unlocked window is on the 2nd floor which is 24 feet from the ground. He will have to borrow a ladder from the neighbors house and place it 7 feet from the house. What length of ladder does he need to reach the 2nd floor safely

Horizontal Distance between foot of ladder and wall = 7 feets

Let length of ladder = x

The lengtb of ladder here is the hypotenus

Recall:

Hypotenus = sqrt(opposite² + adjacent²)

Hence,

x = sqrt(24² + 7²)

x = sqrt(576 + 49)

x = sqrt(625)

x = 25

Hence, length of ladder = 25 feets
