How did scientists use eclipses to prove Earth was round?

During a lunar eclipse, Earth shadow's on the Moon is circular.
During a solar eclipse we can see the Earth's circular shape.
The shadow of Earth's shape can be seen on the Sun.

the first one is correct- during a lunar eclipse, earths shadow on the moon is circular.
