Explanation:

Firs we need to expand 2(x+4)+4 using the distributive law as shown;

2(x+4)+4

=2(x) + 2(4) + 4

= 2x + 8 + 4

= 2x + 12

Since the result is not equivalent to 2x+8 hence 2x+8 and 2(x+4)+4 are not equivalent expressions
