A. So you see you have a and b. You can only add the same letters. For example in this problem, you add 5a+ 7a because they are the same so you get 12a. 3b stays the same because there is no other number with b. So the answer would be 12a+3b.

B. Just like in the last problem. You would do 10-5 because they both have b. So it would be 5b+3a

Answer:

a. 12a + 3b

b. 5b + 3a

Explanation:

Which terms have the same thing applied to them? This is what I ask myself while figuring these out.

a. 5 and 7 both are multiplied by a, so you can combine the expressions to make 12a.

b. 10b - 5b = (10 - 5)b

Both 10 and 5 are multiplied by b, so you can just subtract the integers to get 5b.

I hope this helped!
