so for every 8 pints you get a gallon so the ratio would be 1:8 in the next number we have 1 and 1/2 we already found 1 gallon which is 8 then you need to find half of a gallon which is 8/2 or splitting the 8 in half which is 4. 8 pints (1 gallon) plus 4 pints (half a gallon) equals 12 pints. you can apply this rule for the next number we have 1 gallon which is 8 pints and we need to find 2 which would be 8 times 2 or 16 pints.
