3x-3y= 18

Add them in vertical columns. 7x + 3x = 10x. The 3y and the -3y cancel each other out. 22+ 18 = 40.

You're left with 10x = 40. Solve for x by dividing both sides by 10

x = 4

Plug in 4 into any of the original equations and solve for y.

7(4) + 3y =22.

28 + 3y =22

Subtract 28 on both sides

You're let with 3y = -6. Solve for y by dividing both sides by 3

y= -2
