Explanation:

(2x+1)+(x-6)=0

Remove parenthesis.

2x+1+x-6=0

Rearrange to make life temporarily easier.

2x+x+1-6=0

Now combine like terms.

3x-5=0

Add 5 to cancel it out.

3x-5=0

+5 +5

3x=5

Divide 3 from both sides to cancel that out.

3x=5

/3 /3

x=5/3 or 1 2/3

So the answer is 1 2/3 or 1.67
