Area of the big square = side × side

= 6yd × 6yd

Second Case:

Length of the patio = 4 yd

Area of the patio = Length × Breadth

= 4yd × 2yd


= 8 {yd}^(2)

Last Case:

According to first and second cases,

Area of the garden

= Area of the big square - Area of the patio


= 36 {yd}^(2) - 8 {yd}^(2)


= 28 {yd}^(2)

Hence,

Required area of the garden is 28 sq. yd (Ans)
