The rectangular floor of a classroom is 35 feet in length and 30 feet in width. A scale drawing of the floor has a length of 7 inches. What is the area, in square inches of the floor in the scale drawing?

Divide the lengths to find the scale :

35/7 = 5

Now divide the width by the scale to get the scaled width:

30/5 = 6 inches


the scaled drawing is 7 x 6


area of scaled drawing = 7 x 6 = 42 square inches
