Explanation:

You can see that the figure is made of 6 different rectangles, which would become the sides of the prism if it was 3D.

The top rectangle has a length of 16 cm and a width of 8 cm. 16 x 8 = 128 so this side has an area of 128 square cm

The one directly below that has the same length (16 cm) and a width of 6 cm. 16 x 6 = 96 so its area is 96 square cm

On either side of the previous one there is a 6 by 8 rectangle. 6 x 8 = 48. Remember, there are two sides with an area of 48 cm^2

Below that we have another 16 by 8 rectangle and then another 16 by 6 rectangle.

So your total surface area would be 128 + 96 + 48 +48 + 128 + 96

or 544 square cm
