Aaron makes a scale drawing of a rectangular park. The scale he uses is 2 in: 9 ft. What is the actual area of the floor of the park if the dimensions on the scale drawing are 4 in by 8 in?

If you need to find how much the 4-inch side is in ft., you can multiply both sides of the ratio by 2, since 2 x 2 is 4.

18 ft. is the measurement of the first side

2:9 is also the same as:

2 x 4: 9 x 4

8in:36ft

36 ft. is the measurement of the second side

Multiply the two sides (width x length = area) to get the area of the park

18 x 36
