Ray hired a moving company to help him move to a new apartment. The equation below.

represents the relationship between the number of hours it takes to move (x) and the total cost
to move (y).

- 100 = 240x - 2y

What is the cost per hour?

Answer:

$120/hr

Explanation:

if x is hours to move and y is total cost, let's rearrange the equation so that it is easier to understand. I'd say isolate y (total cost) and see what it is equal to:

- 100 = 240x - 2y

2y = 240x + 100

y = 120x + 100

What I see is: Total Cost = 240*(Hours to move) + 100

That tells us that each hour is $120. It also discloses that there appears to be an upfront charge of $100, before any work is done( even at 0 hours). [If the movers come to the apartment, but you've changed your mind, then it still costs $100].

It also tells us that the charge per hour is $120. [If I had a pickup, I'd do it for $100/hour, but my tiny Honda Accord trunk barely holds the spare tire.]
