x = 18, y = 12

Explanation:

Δ SRT and Δ VUT are similar then the ratios of corresponding sides are equal, that is


(SR)/(VU) =
(ST)/(VT) , substitute values


(12)/(4) =
(x)/(6) ( cross- multiply )

4x = 72 ( divide both sides by 4 )

x = 18

From side ST

y + 6 = 18 ( subtract 6 from both sides )

y = 12
