Why is the number that satisfies this equation not a real number?
x^2=--1

Answer:

I assume that says
x^2=-1, but that is the case because when we square a number, we can NEVER get a negative number. The smallest square we can get is 0. 1^2 is 1, and no real number squared gives us a negative number.
