Area = w • l

168 = (x + 3 + 3) • (x + 2 + 3 + 3)

168 = (x + 6) • (x + 8)

expand

168 = x^2 + 14x + 48

subtract 168 from both sides

0 = x^2 + 14x - 120

simplify

0 = (x - 6) • (x + 20)

x = 6 or -20

since we are dealing with a measurement of a physical object x > 0

x = 6cm

w = x = 6cm

l = x+2 = 8cm
