x=3

Explanation:

since they give you y this is a very simple problem

simply replace y with -3 and get

3x+(-3)=6

adding a negative number is the same as subtracting a positive number

3x-3=6

add 3 on both sides

3x=9

divide by 3 on both sides

x=3
