Why does -2^6 equal -64 but -2 x -2 x -2 x -2 x -2 x -2 equal 64?

when there are no parentheses around the base, this being -2 we put parentheses around the the 2 and the exponent so it will look like -(2^6) making whatever answer you get negative.

when you put parentheses around the base (-2)^6 you will get 64
