Arectangle has a width that is 8 centimeters less than its length. The perimeter of the rectangle is 56 centimeters. Find both the width and length of the rectangle. Show your work.

L=18cm

W=10cm

Explanation:

Given data

let the length be x

L=x

Width= x-8

W= x-8

Perimeter= 56cm

But we know that the perimeter is expressed as

P=2L+2W

substitute our data

56=2(x)+2(x-8)

56=2x+2x-16

56+16=4x

72=4x

divide both sides by 4

x= 72/4

x=18cm

Hence the Length is 18cm

L=18cm

The width= 18-8

W=10cm
