Explanation:

The slant height, height and half of the side of square makes a right angle triangle in a square base pyramid.

Let slant height be l, then 3(base), 8(perpendicular) and l(hypotenuse) make a right angle triangle.

Therefore by Pythagoras principle

l^2 = 8^2+ 3^2

⇒l = √(64+9) = √73

l = 8.54 in

the slant height of the pyramid = 8.54 in
