Two-thirds of the students in a class are wearing blue jeans. Two-sixths

of the students who are wearing blue jeans are also wearing red shirts.

1 half of the class is wearing blue jeans and red shirts.

You want a common denominator, so you can make 2/3 into 4/6, by multiplying the numerator and denominator by 2. Then 2/6 + 4/6 would be just addition across, which makes 6/12. And if you reduce 6/12, it's 1/2
