since two angles are 50°, the triangle is isosceles with the other two sides being equal in length.

A right triangle is formed by a line from its peak down & perpendicular to

the 40 foot side. It's hypotenuse is the unknown (x) and it's base is 40/2 = 20 feet.

cos 50 = 20/x

0.6428 = 20/x

x = 31.11 feet
