It depends on which war you are talking about, as time went on women were seen doing things they really have not done before. With each new war, they would be doing more and more each time, trying to help their country.

In World War I and World War II, many women were planting Victory Gardens. These were gardens that were planted by people on the home front, which were a lot of women during this time. Victory Gardens helped prevent food shortages and made sure that there was enough food for the fighting men. Not only this, but it helped with the morale and patriotism of the country.

Women were also seen on the battlefield, not fighting, but helping as nurses. A lot of women during this time were raised with a basic understanding of nursing, so some were seen on the front lines helping wounded soldiers. They would even perform surgeries, amputations, and other grisly acts in order to save the lives of soldiers.

A lot of women were working during this time as well. Before, women were mostly seen at home, taking care of the children and the house. Now, women were seen in factories creating weapons, ammunition, tanks, bombers, medical supplies, clothes, and other important things needed for the war. In some cases, they would even use the tin from canned goods to create war items.
