A large rectangular shaped aquarium has a volume of 300 ft3. If the aquarium has a height of 3 feet and a length of four more feet than the width, find the length and width of the aquarium.​

Answer:

length is 14.4ft and the width is 12.4ft

Explanation:

Volume of the aquarium = length * width * height

Given

Volume = 300ft^3

Height = 3feet

l = w+4

Substitute

300 = 3w(w+4)

100 = w(w+4)

100 = w^2+4w

w^2+4w-100 = 0

w = 4±√16+400/2

w =4±√416/2

w = 4±20.4/2

w = 24.4/2

w = 12.2feet

Since l = w+4

l = 12.2+4

l = 16.4ft

hence the length is 14.4ft and the width is 12.4ft
